Full Biography

Growing up with limited financial resources in the district, Richard Nguyen wants to ensure that all our students receive an excellent education by working with parents, teachers, administrators, and community members to make it happen.

Attending K-12 public schools in San Jose and Campbell, Richard's passion for improving our educational system started when he was in the 3rd grade. Realizing that the school library had worn-out books, he wrote a letter - with a picture of an apple tree - to his local City Councilwoman asking for help. The Councilwoman graciously mailed a check to the Principal to purchase new books.

Since then, Richard has spent his life advocating for public education. He served on the School Site Council (the budgetary committee) in middle and high school. Richard led two undergraduate classes to lobby the state legislature to make higher education more accessible. He was a graduate student instructor at the University of Michigan. While in law school, he provided research for a lawsuit arguing the state's inadequate funding of K-12 public education violated the state constitution.
